I was thrilled to find this image was awarded Runner Up in the Landscape Category of the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2024 competition. #SLPOTY 'Sunset from Port Appin' (north of Oban) looking across to the mountains on the Morvern peninsula. I just loved how the silhouettes of the four trees on the left balanced with the break in the clouds on the right, allowing the late evening sun to create such wonderful light. This has been such a successful image for me
I was very pleased to learn that I have had two awards in this year's Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2024 #SLPOTY This image "West Highland Way in Winter" has been Commended in the Landscape category. This was taken in January close to Loch Tulla and Bridge of Orchy.
I shot this in January whilst travelling through Rannoch Moor. I saw the sun trying to break through the clouds and highlight the snow capped ridge of the mountain. Am pleased to see it was selected for inclusion in the current edition of 'Outdoor Photography Magazine' Issue No 304.
Very pleased to learn that another of my photographs has been published in 'Outdoor Photography' magazine in the 'One Thing This Month - Patterns in Nature' section. This was an image of the amazing rock formations on the island of Staffa, part of the Inner Hebrides, and created many millions of years ago as a result of volcanic activity. Lots of hexagonal basalt columns create wonderful patterns. This is also the home of Fingal's Cave, where Mendelssohn was inspired to compose his Hebrides Overture owing to the wonderful acoustic qualities of the cave.
I was very pleased to have both my entries accepted into Pershore's Number 8 Open Exhibition which began on 14 September and finishes on Tuesday 10 October. This photograph is from the preview evening showing my two images "Tree Quartet" and "Sunset at Port Appin" both in matching black frames. There is some super work on display and whilst visiting the exhibition tea and coffee are available in the theatre foyer.
